Our Blog...

For all types of homes, our roller blinds range is a sleek and modern alternative that can fit a variety of needs. We’re here to answer the most frequently asked questions about roller blinds and how MyFitter can help.

Where Should Roller Blinds Be Fitted?

Roller blinds can be installed either inside or outside the recess. If they are fitted inside, these can effectively block out some light, whilst still looking neat. This is ideal for places such as cinema rooms and bedrooms. Although they are not going to provide total blackout as there will always be light escaping around the edges.

Our roller blinds range come with brackets for the blinds to be fitted wherever. The installation is completely down to your preferences.

How to Measure for Roller Blinds

Firstly, it’s important to decide whether your blind is to be fitted inside or outside the recess.

Measure from where you want the edges of your blinds to be and take three width measurements of the top, middle and bottom. Three measurements are needed for the width, with the smallest measurement being the recess width. Then, measure from the top, where the blind needs to be and again, take three measurements; left, middle and right. The smallest will be your recess drop. If you are wanting the blinds to be inside the recess, our fitters will ensure the recess is deep enough for the blind and if not, will make adjustments to the blind measurements.

Here at MyFitter, we offer a made to measure roller blinds range that will meet your requirements. It can be hard finding specific materials and patterns or blinds that fit in tricky locations. That’s why our made to measure roller blinds are ideal and becoming increasingly popular. Find out more here on our shop page.

Is a Roller Blinds Range Safe For Children?

Without care, certain blinds and curtains can be dangerous for young children and pets. Dangling cords may become wrapped around a child’s neck and become an entanglement issue, which may cause injury without an adult’s supervision. However, certain elements can be implemented to make your blinds range child-safe.

In line with child safety regulations, consider a chain tensioner. Fixed into the nearby surface, the tensioner will ensure that any cords are secured and avoid any potential risks. For more information on how to ensure blinds are child-safe, read our previous blog here.

At MyFitter, all of our bespoke blind and curtain installations are completed following current child safety regulations. For certain curtains and blinds, the operating chains may loop if not fitted correctly and cause a strangulation risk. Chains should always be kept out of reach of young children and secured with an approved child safety device.

How to Clean Roller Blinds

To avoid any dust buildup, the roller blinds range should be cleaned regularly. Whether this is added to your regular cleaning routine or as and when you see any dust, so that they maintain their good condition, cleaning should be carried out properly and with the right equipment.

Instead, for general tidiness, the blinds should be completely rolled down. Then, holding the blind fabric down, gently vacuum from top to bottom to remove any dust without causing creases. If there is still grime, consider using a damp cloth and wiping away any marks with warm soap water. Let the blinds completely dry and roll them up to prevent the risk of mould.
