Our Blog...

Blinds are an excellent method to offer privacy and limit the amount of light that enters a bathroom, but not all blinds are created equal when it comes to surviving the moisture and humidity of the bathroom environment. Bathrooms and kitchens are both practical places that must survive harsh conditions. Because of the constant battle with steam, moisture, and humidity. To help you choose the perfect blinds for your bathroom, we’ve compiled our best tips for choosing bathroom blinds.

Are Real Wood Blinds a Wise Choice for a Bathroom?

While real wood blinds can give a bathroom a natural and pleasant aesthetic, they may not be the greatest choice for a bathroom setting because wood can warp, rot, and discolour when exposed to dampness and humidity. Furthermore, unlike other varieties of bathroom and wood blinds, can be more difficult to clean and maintain.

Which Fabric is Ideal for a Bathroom Blind?

Just as real woods aren’t the best materials for a bathroom, there are a few others to avoid as well. Cotton, linen, and silk are just a few examples. Moisture can become trapped in the fibres, with disastrous repercussions. PVC and polyester are far superior materials to us in a bathroom environment, thanks to their water-resistant capabilities.

Why Should You Choose Blinds over Curtains?

There are several reasons why blinds may be a better choice than curtains for a bathroom:

  1. Moisture resistance: Blinds are generally more moisture-resistant than curtains, making them a better choice for damp environments like bathrooms.
  2. Hygiene: Blinds are generally easier to clean and maintain than curtains, making them a more hygienic option for bathrooms. Curtains can absorb moisture and dirt, making them more difficult to clean and more likely to harbour bacteria. Blinds, on the other hand, can be wiped down with a damp cloth or cleaned with mild detergent to remove dirt and grime.
  3. Light control: Blinds offer more precise light control than curtains, as they can be adjusted to different angles to block out light, or allow more light to filter through. This can be especially useful in bathrooms where you want to control the amount of natural light that enters the room.
  4. Privacy: Blinds can be adjusted to provide more privacy than curtains. They can be closed completely to block out the view from outside, or adjusted to allow light to filter through while maintaining privacy.

It’s worth considering that, while they are often the more practical choice for bathrooms, curtains can still be used in this space but with more care. Opting for moisture-resistant fabric and ensuring adequate ventilation, and regularly cleaning them, would help prolong the life of the curtains in the bathroom.

Are Roller Blinds Practical for a Bathroom?

We’ve already covered the practical benefits and wide range of designs, but roller blinds can be pushed up and out of the way of splashes, stains, and window sill items, while still giving shade and privacy. We like to use them to make a statement piece or accent colour in a minimal environment.
