Where Did Venetian Blinds Originate?
With the name, you might think that Venetian blinds come from Venice. However, this is not true. They are only called “Venetian” as a merchant took them from Persia (which is now Iran) to Venice.
Stated to be originally from Persia in the Middle East, their origin might even date back all the way to Ancient Egypt, as they were known to have created blinds from reeds.
How to Measure for Venetian Blinds
At MyFitter, we have previously looked at how to measure roller blinds. But, how does the Venetian blinds differ? Much like the other types of blinds, it is important to determine whether you want them to be fitted inside or outside the window recess. If they are outside the window recess, the exact size is required, compared to inside which needs alterations.
For the recess, ensure that it is deep enough to fit the blind and take 3 measurements for the width (top, middle and bottom). The smallest measurement will be the recess width. Then, similarly, take 3 measurements for the drop of the window (left,middle,right). The smallest measurement will be your recess drop.
Taking Care of Them
One of the benefits of Venetian blinds is their durability. PVC, the material used to make faux wood, is much tougher than real wood. This means cleaning and general maintenance are much easier and can be performed efficiently.
Start by dusting your blinds. The easiest tool for this is a feather duster; just slide it in between each slat and run it along its length.
When the slats are completely closed, use a cloth and some of your preferred cleaning solutions to give them a thorough washing. Beginning at the top, gradually work your way down. After doing this, turn the slats 180 degrees so that they are lying shut but with the edge closest to you facing up rather than down. Wipe your cloth along every slat in the same manner. For a more efficient cleaning solution, consider wrapping a pair of tongs in cloth so that you can clean both sides of the slats simultaneously.
