When it comes to curtain track fittings, it is important that measurements are accurate to ensure installation is efficient. Yet, there are crucial steps that need to be understood and followed. Find out the basic steps on curtain tracks from a professional team of curtain fitters here.

Step 1: Select Your Tools

Tools required:

  • A step ladder
  • A tape measure (we recommend a metal tape)
  • A pencil
  • A drill
  • A screwdriver
  • A dust sheet
  • Nails and screws

It can be very unpleasant to have to stop work midway through to run back to the DIY store, so make sure everything that is required for fitting the track is actually present. Alternatively, hire a curtain fitting service to ensure that the correct equipment is properly used.

Step 2: Position and Attach Brackets

Before understanding how to fit a curtain track, it is important to ensure that there is enough space for your positioning. These track rails should be positioned between 10 and 15cm above the horizontal edge. If you have a tall ceiling, this should result in halfway between the ceiling and window recess. Or, if you have specific curtain lengths as guidelines, ensure you work out the fitting height of the brackets so the curtain hangs perfectly before commencing with curtain track fittings.

Once the positioning has been completed, it is time to attach your brackets, which are placed about 15cm on either side of the window recess. Make sure the track is wide enough. Then, mark out and drill.

At this stage, it is important to confirm that drilling won’t cause the brackets to end up vertically aligned with any pipelines or electrical sockets. Repeat this process on the opposite side of the bracket, measuring from the floor up to the point where the bracket is to be fixed and marking this location with a cross.

Step 3: Ensure Your Track is Level and Mark Holes

To ensure your curtain tracks will be level, use a spirit level to measure one mark to the other. Check it to see if it is level to the eye, in proportion to the ceiling and window recess. However, this can be a hardship, especially if your windows aren’t exactly horizontal. Instead, why not hire a company that has experts in curtain track fittings? In order to achieve precise bracket alignment and a precise marking for the centre bracket, measure and mark the wall precisely between the two outside bracket marks using the string line. Use the spirit level to ensure that every bracket is exactly aligned when installing a curtain track with many brackets. Space the brackets evenly throughout the track’s width. Drill the pilot holes for the plugs and screws using the proper drill bit, and then install the brackets to the wall.

Step 5: Fit the Curtain Tracks

Then, it’s time to fit your curtain tracks. Fit the curtain track rails onto the brackets you have attached and fix them in place with screws.

However, for those who aren’t DIY-oriented, this can be a stressful and long process. If you don’t get the measurements correct, this could be a costly mistake. And if you have already drilled, it could ruin your wall. Instead, why not hire a curtain track fittings service? Sit back and relax whilst experts fit your track rails accurately and efficiently.
